Hello Friends!
I'd like to take a moment to explain how this blog can work for you, the students and families, at home.
First, some blog terminology would be helpful to cover. You are now reading a blog post. The date of the post is listed above. I've tried to keep the posts frequent but not too frequent that you'll miss one. So, I think I'll try to write a new post each Friday. That gives you the week to check it out.
In the post, there will be a homework activity to be done over the weekend. This will be something related to reading, writing or math and connect to a concept that we've learned this week in class. Include the homework in your Home Journal when it is ready. If it can't be done by Monday, that's fine. Just make a note of it in the Home Journal and have it done as soon as you can within the week.
Now to the blog pages. Blog pages can be found along the top of the blog under the blog title. These are more specific and can be used as you like. If you are looking for extra activities to do at home to practice certain skills, these are the pages to visit. For example, a great writing website is called Bitstrips. I've created an account for the class and it's ready to use. See the page "Websites for Kids" for the password and web address.
Finally, I want to talk about the blog poll. Please vote on the blog poll, or survey, at the left side by clicking on one of the options.
To summarize, you've learned about the following blog features:
1. posts
2. pages
3. polls
The homework activity is a math one!
Part 1: Pick one question to solve. How would figure it out? You can talk about it, draw it, or use a calculator!
Part 2: Make up your own estimating question to ask the class. Pick a unit (i.e. time, distance, area) or a number (i.e. amount of something).
Have a great weekend,
Ms. Perlmutter
